There is a huge gap of time since my very last post. In which it mostly make this site looks dead. The truth is, it is indeed not in a state that is actively maintained. Getting an offer in a totally different place, I took the opportunity to relocate myself into a place that is totally different in environment, culture, even language.
Now that I am more familiar with the place, it seems to be the time to mark down a review.
Knowing thyself
Long in my previous experience, I am mostly living in some micro systems. The most recognizible one would be the schools I was in: students being split into grades according to their age, and there is always concret, detailed goals that someone told me to chase. Achieving these requirements did not give me the most fruitful outcome depicted by the system, but rather they prepared me with the minimum requirement to be a worker for any company. After getting into a company, again I was looped under some micro system, which the career path is well identifyed by the company in a detailed and delicated fashion. I clearly know after how many years, about what position I would be in and what responsibility I would need to bear. All these experience is not something bad, but rather something comfortable and trustful. It seems like a well made game which I can almost follow the story, clear the main tasks, achieving the "good life" defined in the story. This is clearly something nice as everything is listed out black and white, there is nothing to worry about. I am very greatful for these experience, as I can hold one standard of "good life" which I can always refer to.
Yet the world is not a story-based game, and rather a open-world game. This is something the world kept reminding me in this new place:
- Your hobbies are still here. How do you find new communities?
- Your friends are not here. How do you make new friends?
- The market is different. What is your edge amoung others?
- The language is different. How do you communicate with others?
- The sociaity is different. How do you adapt to this new system?
- The story has changed. Who do you want to be?
Answering these question took me a lot of time, and I am still answering them.
Consolidating myself
So what is it like to be in a different story? I found out there are two important things:
- The scale of the world
- The connection to the others
We always say "the world is big", but how big? Upon my arrival I can only notice that everything is suddenly accessible physically, speaking of a reach via one metro line. Things have only been reachable via web, where I can get the latest information in any of my gadgets. Here, there are actual person, real products, concret experience that I can interact with. This really broaden my horizon, with these details and information that sounds to sync with my channel.
A side product of having a broader view is sparking more communication. With these new experience I have to talk to different person from different background and circle. Luckily I had a rather enjoyable time with all the folks I have met, and they let me know the varitiey of story that one can live. Although the connection may not be strong, I can in fact build up a respectful view to the life one have lived.
Creating Output
That in fact makes me want to persue on creating output, telling others what my story is, sharing the view of mine. Knowning one is special in this city, it is becoming more important to think about what one really wants. And through exercising the thought process, I will have to voice out the result of the thought let my idea flow in the air and try to collide with people that find it creating spark.
